At Middlewood Locks we have always championed ways to lead a healthier lifestyle, from outdoor yoga and community football to green space planting and engaging walkways, to encourage the use of our fantastic public realm. Of course, a beer or two at Seven Brothers is also good for you, right?!
Playing our part in combating climate change and reducing our collective carbon footprint has also never been more important and it is fantastic to see how many of our residents are taking positive action through walking to commute, using public transport, recycling and even creating veg gardens.
The recent introduction of Lime e-scooters at Middlewood Locks has proved to be a huge hit with many of our community using this highly sustainable, and affordable, mode of transport to travel. Indeed, Salford City Council has recorded that the majority of trips are being used between Middlewood Locks, The University of Salford University Campuses, Chapel Street and the city centre.
Now, were excited to announce that Middlewood Locks is the lucky recipient of ten new e-bikes as part of the Transport for Greater Manchester’s new Bee Network cycle hire scheme. This initiative, championed by Mayor Andy Burnham, has been a fantastic success to date with over 300 e-bikes now available to hire in Manchester. Operated through the beryl app, the e-bikes cost £1 to unlock and 10p per minute of use. They are located on Middlewood St opposite Quarry building at Middlewood Locks.
Transport for Greater Manchester is offering cycle courses for those that want to learn to ride or simply brush up on their skills and confidence. So now there is no excuse not to ‘get on yer bike’ and take a fun, sustainable and quick ride to your next destination without even perspiring!
